MakerDAO/Sky on Telegram Ads: DAI Stablecoin Protocol Advertiser Profile 2026
How MakerDAO (now Sky) uses Telegram sponsored ads. Profile of the DAI/USDS stablecoin, MKR governance, CDP model, and the Sky rebranding transition.
What Is MakerDAO?#
MakerDAO is the oldest and most battle-tested DeFi protocol, having launched the DAI stablecoin on Ethereum mainnet in 2017. For years it was the only decentralized stablecoin with meaningful liquidity, and DAI became a cornerstone of DeFi infrastructure — used as collateral, trading pair, and savings vehicle across hundreds of protocols.
The protocol operates through Collateralized Debt Positions (CDPs, now called Vaults): users lock ETH or other approved collateral and mint DAI against it, maintaining a minimum collateralization ratio. If the ratio falls below the liquidation threshold, the Vault is automatically liquidated through Dutch auction.
MKR Governance#
MKR is the governance and recapitalization token of MakerDAO. MKR holders vote on all protocol parameters: collateral types, stability fees (the interest rate borrowers pay), debt ceilings, and risk parameters. When the system runs a deficit (bad debt from under-collateralized Vaults), new MKR is minted and sold to cover it — diluting holders. When the system runs a surplus, MKR is bought back and burned, making it deflationary.
This dual function — governance and recapitalization backstop — makes MKR one of the most economically sophisticated tokens in DeFi.
The Sky Rebrand#
In 2024, MakerDAO began transitioning to a new brand identity: Sky. The Sky ecosystem introduces USDS (the successor to DAI) and SKY (the successor to MKR). The transition is designed to improve user experience and accessibility while maintaining the same underlying CDP mechanics. Existing DAI and MKR remain fully functional during the transition.
The rebrand reflects a strategic pivot: Sky positions itself as a more consumer-friendly stablecoin platform, while preserving the institutional credibility built by a decade of DAI's track record.
Telegram Advertising Patterns#
MakerDAO/Sky's Telegram ad presence spans multiple use cases:
- DAI/USDS savings: the DAI Savings Rate (DSR) — now Sky Savings Rate — offers onchain yield directly from the protocol. Telegram ads in yield-focused channels promote the savings rate, especially when it exceeds centralized alternatives.
- Vault onboarding: ads targeting DeFi-native audiences explain how to mint DAI using ETH or WBTC collateral, emphasizing non-custodial access to liquidity without selling assets.
- Sky transition: as the rebrand rolls out, Telegram campaigns explain the DAI→USDS migration path, targeting existing DAI holders.
MakerDAO has historically targeted Russian and Eastern European DeFi communities heavily on Telegram, reflecting early strong adoption in those regions.
CDP Model Strengths#
The CDP model offers something no algorithmic stablecoin can: over-collateralization backed by real assets with transparent, on-chain liquidation. DAI has maintained its peg through multiple market crashes — including the March 2020 liquidity crisis and the 2022 bear market — when algorithmic alternatives (LUNA/UST) collapsed catastrophically.
This track record is a core message in MakerDAO's Telegram advertising: DAI's resilience is earned through seven years of on-chain operation across extreme market conditions.
Why Telegram for MakerDAO?#
MakerDAO targets Telegram because its user base is sophisticated — Vault operators are by definition on-chain DeFi participants who understand collateralization ratios and liquidation mechanics. Telegram channels covering Ethereum, DeFi yield strategies, and governance host exactly this audience. The protocol also maintains official Telegram communities in English, Russian, and other languages, creating organic touchpoints alongside paid sponsored ads.
